Epictronic Signs UK Indie Rocker SICKY for New Album Troubled Delight
Shropshire-based artist SICKY has joined the roster at Epictronic Records ahead of the release of his upcoming album Troubled Delight. Known for his fearless approach to songwriting and quirky rock sensibility, SICKY continues to expand on the raw creativity he showcased in earlier releases like Garbage Town (2022) and Bowling Balls (2021).
A Sound Built on Instinct and Energy
SICKY, originally from the Black Country, has never been one to stick to a single sound. From the brass-driven grooves of Papa Mantra to the heavy stomp of SUMO, his work has always carried a sense of restless experimentation. With Troubled Delight, he strips things back and lets instinct lead the way. The result is a collection of songs that are emotionally honest, full of character, and refreshingly unpolished.
“The album is an accident, but in the best way,” SICKY says. “It’s about turning your day-to-day frustrations into something you can let go of. Writing these songs helped me move forward, and hopefully they do the same for whoever listens.”
Recorded at Home, Made with Heart
The entire album was written and produced at home, without overthinking or polish. Percussion elements were pulled from unusual sources like music classroom instruments, the sound of shopping center doors, a church bell recorded on a phone, and even a sample from Quatermass and the Pit (used with permission from Hammer Films).
The project became a family affair. Jen Bone plays double bass on several tracks. SICKY’s niece Rebecca Butler adds vocals to the haunting “Mankind,” while his daughters Lily and Scarlet contribute shouty, punk-style backing vocals to “I’m Happy If You’re Happy.” The album is personal and unpredictable in all the right ways.

A Growing Reputation
SICKY has slowly but surely gained attention across the UK’s indie and alt-rock circles. Analogue Trash praised him for combining “British eccentricity with brutally honest songwriting,” while BBC Introducing has championed past releases for their energy and originality.
Troubled Delight is already being described as his most immediate and accessible record to date. It’s messy in places, but always deliberate. It doesn’t try to impress. It just feels real.
