About the Album: Sanatorium
Sanatorium delves into dark themes like depression, schizophrenia, war, oppression, and religion—wrapped in a blistering death-thrash sound. Produced by Rafael Augusto Lopes (Crypta) and Andre (Zaza) Hernandes (Angra, André Matos), it was recorded at São Paulo’s Casanegra studios.
The Band Behind the Fury
Formed in 2015, 4BanneD consists of Alex Maramaldo (vocals/guitar), Ícaro Cavalcante (guitar/backing vocals), Hewerson Freitas (bass/backing vocals), and Bosco Larcerda (drums).
Signed to Wormhole Death (Italy/Japan/USA), they’re poised to elevate Brazilian metal with intelligent, hard-hitting music that doesn’t flinch from tough conversations.
External Buzz & Critical Impressions
Although full reviews of Sanatorium are still emerging, the band’s booking at festivals like Viseu Death Fest shows growing recognition among Europe’s strictest metal circles. Their fusion of death’s brutality with thrash’s ferocity earned nods from Brazilian metal press, particularly for tackling weighty themes without sacrificing groove or clarity.
As a critic, what stands out is how 4BanneD balances visceral energy and thoughtful composition. Their riffs don’t just smash—they narrate. Amid a landscape often numb to nuance, they purge emotional authenticity straight into the speakers.
Critic’s Insight
From a listener’s vantage, Sanatorium feels more than an album—it’s an unflinching confrontation. It slams through spiritual malaise while wrapping you in groove-heavy riffs that burn in memory. You can feel Maramaldo’s convictions in every chug and Herández’s production polish sharpens the impact.
