Australian heavy/thrash unit Decimator are back with a new chapter in their story: the EP Downfallen, out via Wormholedeath. The title track arrives with a lyric video that feels as confrontational as the history it draws from.
Reign of Terror through a thrash lens
“Downfallen” dives into the turmoil of the French Revolution and Maximilien Robespierre’s Reign of Terror, turning political paranoia and collapsing power structures into sharp, muscular riffing and strafing drum patterns. The track leans into classic late‑80s thrash energy – think the precision of modern production wrapped around the spiteful swing of early Slayer and Kreator – but keeps enough groove in the mid‑tempo sections to feel deadly rather than nostalgic.
Band entering a new phase
The current incarnation of Decimator has been slowly forged since the band’s formation in 2021. Bassist Riley Perry (Of Flesh, ex‑Paralysis) joined in 2024, tightening the low end and bringing a more nuanced melodic sense, while 2025 ushered in further changes with Caiseal Duncan on guitar and Ashley Pollard on drums. Vocalist/guitarist Lance Holland‑Keen is now the remaining original member, steering the band into this new era with a more focused and vicious sound.
Songwriting and production
