ASCHEN Sign With Wormholedeath for Debut Album Release
Basque black metal force ASCHEN have officially signed with Wormholedeath, setting the stage for the worldwide release of their long-awaited debut full-length album, The Never Ending Search.
Rooted in the underground
Hailing from the Basque Country, ASCHEN draw from the raw, uncompromising spirit of early black metal while reshaping it through a distinctly modern lens. Formed in 2022 by Mikel Telletxea (vocals, guitar, programming), the project initially began as a collaboration with bassist Igor Valle, quickly gaining underground attention with their self-titled 2023 demo.
That early momentum proved decisive. Rather than expanding for the sake of scale, ASCHEN refined their core identity, later solidifying the lineup with the addition of Atauzz (Korkut, Kurkuma, 2Sonte) on bass. The result is a band that values atmosphere and intent over excess, leaning into ritualistic pacing, controlled tension, and unflinching emotional weight.
A debut built on intent
The Never Ending Search is not a debut born of haste. ASCHEN took the time to define its scope and sound, entering Atala Studios in Spain in August 2025 to record the album. The choice of studio was no accident; Atala has long been associated with artists who value character and depth over polish.
To complete the process, the album was mastered by Toni Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, a name synonymous with clarity and power in extreme metal, having worked with acts such as Dimmu Borgir, Katatonia, and Kreator. The result is a production that feels expansive without sacrificing the cold, abrasive edge that defines the band.
A sound beyond tradition
While ASCHEN’s DNA is unmistakably black metal, the band resist confinement. Their songwriting moves fluidly between suffocating, doom-laden passages and relentless blast-driven assaults, held together by devastating riff work and moments of haunting melody. Constant rhythmic shifts create a sense of unease, allowing songs to breathe, collapse, and rebuild in unexpected ways.
This dynamic approach gives the music an emotional depth that reaches beyond genre tropes. Rather than relying solely on grim aesthetics, ASCHEN channel intensity through contrast, letting silence, melody, and restraint amplify the impact of aggression.
Ancestral roots and inner conflicts
Lyrically, ASCHEN carve their own path. While English remains a primary language, the band also sing in Basque, their ancestral mother tongue, grounding the material in personal and cultural identity.
Rejecting traditional satanic or pagan narratives, the album focuses inward. The lyrics explore the human inability to confront internal fractures and the way personal collapse echoes outward into a decaying society and a suffering natural world. It is black metal not as provocation, but as introspection.
The labyrinth of the self
The album’s visual identity reinforces this concept. Created by Mikel Telletxea himself, the artwork depicts an endless labyrinth formed from overlapping fingerprints, suspended between macrocosm and microcosm. It represents a search with no clear exit, inward and outward at once, unresolved by design.
